Bulgarian Irina Bokova is the next Director General of UNESCO

Great news from Paris – Irina Bokova, the Bulgarian Ambassador to France, won the elections for the Director General of UNESCO!

She managed to get ahead of the Egyptian minister of culture for more than 20 years, Mr. Farouk Hosny with 31 to 27 votes.

That’s a great news for my country, and for Mrs. Bokova!

it’s a shame the NY Times seems to think the main news is Mr Hosny’s defeat, not that UNESCO has a competent new leader. politics within politics, or sheer ignorance? and NPR could not even get her name right.
